Do your products contain glutamic acid? Is this the same as MSG?

No, our products do not contain MSG. Glutamic acid (and glutamine) are amino acids that have nothing functionally in common with MSG (monosodium glutamate). The glutamate portion of MSG is the same amino form, but the functional characteristics of MSG are because of its combined nature. Glutamic acid does not have the same properties or effects.

Glutamic acid is easily convertible to glutamine, the most abundant amino acid in muscle tissue, and a very important amino for immunity and repair. Glutamic acid is also a key neurotransmitter (glutamate) and a precursor to the relaxing (neuroinhibitory) neurotransmitter gamma-amino butyrate (GABA).

The biggest factors in distorting the GABA-glutamate ratio are broad dietary factors and lifestyle. So, the GABA-glutamate ratio which is really important for neural health is really a function of endogenous factors resulting from poor diet and lifestyle, rather than glutamic acid intake.
